I have never been one to place much emphasis on the look of my mode of transportation. Not that I wouldn't dream of a beautiful, shiny, sleek and sexy car-- but that has never really been my practical reality. My unfortunate first vehicle was my parents' old Ford Taurus Station Wagon. And although it served it's purpose, and maybe the extra large back seat did have its perks... It was awfully unattractive, and embarrassing, for a 16 year old girl. When I got married at 20, my husband and I went through vehicles like we were trying to get in the Guinness Book of World Records. But, after we had our first daughter, Audrey, in 2008- we settled down and purchased a family friendly, used, Honda Pilot. The Pilot was great and it was everything we could need, and never saw any reason to part with this new member of our family. We added daughter Aislyn Clare in 2010, and Evie June in 2012 and all was well.... Except for those moments when I had to load and unload three kids, 4 and under, into a squished backseat. It was like a game of limbo and Twister all rolled into one. The time came that our dearest Pilot had to find a new home, and we were ready to upgrade to a minivan! Minivan shopping didn't last long, in fact I bought the first one I drove. It had enough space to live in, and road trips were going to be amazing.
Then it happened. It was all official. I WAS A MINIVAN MOM. I couldn't fool myself any longer, I was on the flipside of old. I had, with one purchase, moved myself from seemingly young and hip... Into an old mom of three. My youth was gone in a blink of an eye. And now I am left contemplating if all of the perks of leather, navigation, dvd, and sunroof are worth it. It actually makes me understand those "mid-life crisis" men who run out a buy a red-hot convertible to feel young. That makes sense to me now!
